Morning Light captures an Amsterdam canal at the quiet start of a winter's day, the first warm glow of sunlight catching the old canal houses while the city is still waking up. The sky is pale and clear, bare trees frame the bridge, and a lone duck drifts along the water. Unhurried. Peaceful. Full of quiet promise.
It's a scene the artist knows well — and one that holds a deeply personal secret. Look closely at the canal and you'll find a small family of birds, together in the water. Look up to the window of the canal house and you'll find a cat watching over it all. Hidden details painted to mark the moment he and his wife discovered they were expecting their first child.
The sunlight that heals the wounds and errors of yesterday, and signals the start of something beautiful. We all deserve that feeling.

Every portrait is an original gouache painting on acid-free, archival watercolour paper, signed by hand on the back. Frame included, and shipped free anywhere in the world.

Each size can be commissioned for one pet or two. Use the dropdown menu to choose your size and pet count.
PLEASE READ BEFORE ORDERING
A commission is for one pet by default. If you'd like two pets in a single portrait, select the "Two Pets" option from the dropdown menu. If you'd like two separate, individual portraits instead — one for each pet — please place two separate orders.
After placing your order, email 2–3 clear photos of your pet to rabbithouseillustration@gmail.com. For two-pet portraits, please include a photo of them together if possible, so I can understand their size in relation to one another. The sooner I receive these, the sooner I can begin your portrait.
I will choose one photo to paint from, so please only send photos you'd be happy to see painted. When selecting reference photos, choose ones that show your pet's personality, ideally with nice, even lighting. If the photos you send don't quite work, I'll let you know so we can find a better option together.
My goal, in the end, is to make the recipient of this painting cry happy tears — and I do this best when my clients trust me to create something special. Approx class time: 180 minutes
This is a beginner level block-printing workshop where you'll learn everything you need to know about creating your very own block . During the workshop, we’ll lead you through the design, carving, and ultimately printing of your custom block. We’ll first start by visually refining your idea so that it’s optimized for printing. Next, you’ll have time to hand carve out the details, which is such a mind-clearing and mood-lifting experience. At the end of the course, you'll print your handmade design onto both high quality acid-free paper as well as a lovely tote bag.
All tools and materials are provided for the class. At the end of the workshop along with your tote bag and prints, you will get to keep your hand-carved block for future use!
Ideally the tote bag you make needs to cure overnight, or at least 1 hour and can be collected from the workshop location afterwards.
